Physical Science and Chemistry

I graduated from Northland College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Natural Resources and Biology. I spent many years as a fisheries technician studying various fish species on Lake Superior and on the rivers of Interior Alaska. I went back to school and graduated with a Masters of Science in Teaching and Education from Colorado State University.

Hello scientists and proud parents!

To help accommodate and reach my students more effectively, I use classroom.google.com. You will be able to find extra resources, notes, study guides and announcements on this site. Any questions could potentially be answered here. Make sure to sign in under the student’s school account to fully access the class.

Classroom Activities:

We have ended with learning about Chemistry and have started our units covering Physics topics. Our first physics unit will cover Motion, Force, Work and Power. This unit is the largest unit of the year and covers a variety of topics. There will be two lab reports for assessments during this unit. This unit will most likely take us up to May.

IB Assessments:

During IB units, students will be graded on the 0-8 level scale. PowerSchool will reflect the percent earned, not overall points, matching with the overall average level descriptor the students fit for that criterion given the evidence they provided in their assessments. Criterion for Sciences, as well as the strands for each criterion students are assessed on, can be found in the link below.

Assignments:

  • Keep up to date on note packets
  • Motion Quiz (March 5th)
  • Force Quiz (March 24th)
  • Balloon Rocket Lab Report (Tentatively April 3rd)
  • Work and Power Quiz (Tentatively April 17th)

**Reminder: I can only guarantee timely email responses between 7:00am-4pm. Students, after confirming with parents, please give 12+ hours in advance on coming in for extra time to ensure I can meet you.

My Goal:

My goal is to build life-long learners and help build students’ healthy study habits. One way I do this is to, when the students don’t have a specific assignment, to have their assignment be to review their notes. With that being said, make sure your student is up to date on their note packets. These notes are always posted to Classroom if your student would like to work ahead or catch up on missed notes.

Daily Supplies:

  • 3 – Ring Binder with up to date notes
  • Pencil

If your child has a file folder or a pocket folder, that is fine.
